The Taste Season 2 Now Casting
Yes, there’s a season two.
ABC announced today that it’s currently casting for the second season of its cooking competition reality program, The Taste. The show—which follows teams of pro and amateur chefs as they were mentored by four celebrity culinary talents à la The Voice—premiered back in January to huge hype, based largely around the presence of judges Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre, and Brian Malarkey.
The superstar panel attracted 6.1 million viewers for the show’s first episode. We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but after the show’s premier episode (which dragged on for two hours), we realized that watching judges eat one bite of food at a time isn’t intriguing—it’s boring. And we weren’t the only ones: more than one million viewers chose not to tune back in for episode two.
So, it was much to our surprise when ABC announced last month that despite its below-average ratings, The Taste is back for season two. Maybe it’s because viewers liked watching Lefebvre flirt with finalist Sarah Schiear (we wonder what Krissy Lefebvre thought about all that?), or perhaps it’s because they enjoyed hearing Bourdain’s occasional PG-13 comments about the contestants’ dishes: “I'm a big nasty slut—take me home now"? Or might Lawson just need to divert some attention away from her recent domestic dustup?
There’s been no confirmation as to whether or not Lefebvre and Malarkey will be returning for the second season (perhaps because all they did during the first season was argue with each other). But if think you have what it takes to impress the panel, the casting producers are currently accepting applications online, or through one of the open casting calls.
The first open session takes place right here in L.A. on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Art Institute of California, Los Angeles.
After a lackluster first season, expectations for The Taste are much lower this time around. But then, we’ll probably end up watching it anyway.
