Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike will undoubtedly enjoy what has become one of L.A.’s best craft beer festivals

When I heard that the 4th L.A. Vegan Beer and Food Fest was coming in May, I got a little excited. You see, between my belly and my T-shirt wardrobe (about 90% of which is beer and/or brewery related), one glance and you can tell I’ve attended my share of beer festivals. And out of all those, I can easily say that the L.A. Vegan Beer Fest is hands down one of my favorites.
“Wait… isn’t all beer vegan?” Not necessarily. Most is, sure, since the base ingredients—water, malted barley, hops, and yeast—are all obviously free of meat and animal by-products, but some brewers do use gelatin or isinglass (made from the swim bladders of fish) to help clarify their beers. Additionally, there are some beers that use honey, and certain beer styles, like milk stouts, that (as the name implies) utilize lactose for body and sweetness.
Regardless of whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, or otherwise, there’s always been a stellar line-up of breweries and food vendors there. Exactly who will be pouring and serving this time is still TBD, but if past events are any indication, you’ll likely see the Seabirds Truck (you want the beer-battered fried avocado taco), Mandoline Grill (you want the lemongrass tofu banh mi), and all sorts of goodies from Tony’s Darts Away and The Roxy Theater, which organize the event along with vegan blogger extraordinaire Quarry Girl.
Tickets (which include unlimited beer samples) are $40, VIP tickets (which include early admission and entry to the upstairs “On The Rox” lounge) are $50, and designated driver tickets are $15.
