One Pot Wonderful: Cecconi’s Timpano is the Ultimate Holiday Centerpiece

A Timpano is a dough-encrusted baked pasta dish shaped like a timpani drum, made famous by Stanley Tucci’s 1996 film “Big Night.” In the movie, it’s the final, golden-hued, richly sauced beacon of hope for brothers Primo and Secondo, who are desperately trying to save their failing family restaurant. To further immortalize the dish, we featured its making—from hand-made pasta dough to three hours in the oven—in our December issue, which is on newsstands now.

This Christmas, Cecconi’s chef Andrea Cavaliere is whipping up his Stanley Tucci-approved version of the hearty bundle. Available for both dine-in and carry-out, each rigatoni and meatball-laden timpano serves up to eight people. Reservations for dine-in are required, and to-go orders must be made at least 48 hours in advance with deposit.

Forget freshly fallen snow, expensive electronics, and cashmere scarves: a Timpano is all we want for Christmas.
