The Hungry Cat Santa Monica

The third outpost of David Lentz’s seafood shrine is also the first with an ocean view. Those familiar with the Hollywood nook will be surprised at the grand PCH digs: Beneath lofty beamed ceilings sit a raw bar with stools on three sides, a cocktail bar, a covered rear patio, and a dining room that winds through the vaguely nautical space. The focus hasn’t changed: glamorous tiered seafood platters, unfussy fish dishes like chorizo-studded clams and grilled octopus, as well as cocktails spiked with house-made juices. We did spot a few more Indian and Middle Eastern influences here, such as tandoori sauce and fresh naan served with cured arctic char and the charmoula (like a Mediterranean chimichurri) placed atop the whole grilled fish of the day. No brunch service is offered yet, but we look forward to a Bloody Mary as fresh as the ones farther east. » 100 W. Channel Rd. (310-459-3337 or thehungrycat.com). D nightly. Full bar. Seafood   $$$
