Mama Said Take Me Out—Huh!
Don’t call it a comeback. Mother’s Day restaurants for every mom
One of our favorite things about Mom is that she’s particular. Whether it’s how to properly fold a fitted sheet or where to get the best apple pie, Mom knows what she likes and how she likes it. So, this year on Mother’s Day, we’re doing it her way, and we suggest you do the same. Whether she’s the type who takes tea and croissants every morning or the lady who packed organic carrots (not Twinkies) for your recess snack, we’ve picked the most delicious ways to celebrate Mama—just the way she likes it.
For the Mom Who’s …
Hard to Impress
Bouchon — Strawberry macarons, bottles of wine, lobster hash, and a luxurious dining room? Your high maintenance mom will fit right in.
Spago — Talk about special—the legendary spot only serves brunch for Mother’s Day. Three courses of dishes like blueberry hotcakes and grilled black cod will have her saying “Thank you,” and not, “I told you so!”
Up All Night
Fred 62 — If 11 a.m. is too early for your nightowl of a mother, take her to the Los Feliz diner at midnight for its 24 hours of pancakes and mimosas. They’re also serving a TV dinner-themed menu of fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
A Beach Bum
Perry’s By the Beach — Make it a beach day with this shack’s Beach Butler service, where Mom will enjoy brunch with her toes in the sand—literally—and a personal butler waiting on her. You can rent bikes here, too, and ride along the Strand to work off the grub.
A Big Fan of the Bubbly
Andaz — Bottomless mimosas for $13! Enough said.
Napa Valley Grille — If mom likes to indulge in more ways than one, this place serves a country-style buffet, complete with items like beer-braised short ribs, alongside those bottomless mimosas.
Straight Outta’ Pleasantville
Tam O’Shanter — For the Jackie O. type the historic pub is serving bottomless champagne and dishes like green eggs and ham and buttermilk biscuits with gravy in its cozy, Old World dining room.
Still Partying (Harder Than You)
Church Key — If pig ear Cheetos and bloody Marys served from a dim sum-style cart sounds like an adult version of the 13th birthday party she threw you, this is your place.
The Abbey — Experimental mommies/daddies are welcome for a drag-centric brunch hosted by West Hollywood Diva, Momma. Everyone gets a free mimosa, of course.
A Farm Girl at Heart
Girasol — C.J. Jacobson’s Studio City restaurant is offering foraged and locally sourced ingredients with a rustic three-course meal with dishes like eggs benedict-duck confit and a farmers’ market quiche.
Post + Beam — The Balwin Hills comfort food spot will be serving country moms everything Southern from grits and deviled eggs to grilled shrimp and apple pie.
A Member of PETA
SunCafe — For the vegetarian that epects more than a salad, hit this vegan-friendly joint for a sun Florentine with tempeh, hollandaise, and spinach. If she has a sweet tooth, she’ll also score raw dark chocolates.
Hakkasan — The swanky den is going all Cantonese this Mother’s Day with a dim sum lunch with spicy prawns and a black sesame espresso ice cream.
Picca — Ricardo Zarate’s Mother’s Day menu will offer Peruvian specialties such as ceviche and roasted lamb shank with rustic salsa followed by passion fruit mousse.
Fig and Olive, Melrose Place — Inspired by the French Riviera, Fig & Olive’s Mother’s Day brunch will include dishes like crab eggs benedict and lobster bisque.
Patina — Tartine of Dungeness crab and zucchini agnolotti sound just about right for the mom that would wear a beret every day of the week if she could. Make her feel chic with this three-course brunch.
