Bon Appétit Grub Crawl — 10/26
Bon Appétit is hitting up Abbott Kinney this weekend for its second annual Los Angeles Grub Crawl. The 21+ shindig will trace through five of the city’s “most recognized” restaurants, including Local 1205, The Otheroom, Barnyard, Salt Air, The Brig, and 3 Square Café + Bakery, with more to be announced. Celebrity Chef Dinner with Eric Greenspan at Homegirl Café – 10/26
Join chef Eric Greenspan (Foundry, The Roof) for a family-style dinner at the Homegirl Café. It’s $95 for the sangria reception and a three-course dinner featuring pork belly biscuit sliders, charred skirt steak, Mexican bread pudding, and more. Proceeds benefit Homeboy Industries, which helps former gang members with a range of education, employment, and mental health services. More information.
Harvest Moon Garden School Foundation Fundraiser – 10/27
Don’t you wish your elementary school had a farm-to-table class? This weekend, KCRW’s Evan Kleiman and Cooks County are transforming the 24th Street Elementary School garden into the ultimate interactive classroom. Sarting with a scavenger hunt, guests will learn to cook with the help of second-graders and build a succulent garden with recycled water bottles. Noted chefs from Cooks County, Heirloom LA, Loteria Grill, Moon Juice, and others will be serving dishes and drinks featuring local seasonal produce. Proceeds go to the Garden School Foundation’s efforts to fight childhood obesity. More information.
L.A.’s First Sriracha Festival – 10/27
Do we need another reason to celebrate our beloved rooster sauce? No, but we’ll gladly take one. Food GPS’s Josh Lurie and Digest contributor and Sriracha expert Randy Clemens are gathering nearly a dozen L.A. chefs under one roof to cook their hottest Sriracha-themed dishes. The event takes place at downtown’s Lot 613; live music, local craft beers, and cocktails help sweeten the deal. General admission is $49; VIP is $80. More information.
Chef John Currence Dinner at Animal – 10/27
The next installment in Animal’s “Cooking with Friends” dinner series features chef John Currence, author of the new cookbook Pickles, Pigs, & Whiskey. A four-course dinner will feature Southern-style dishes such as cornbread-stuffed quail. (One can only hope there will be whisky involved, too.) The dinner costs $95 and includes a copy of the cookbook. More information.
Wil Wheaton Tap Takeover at Stone Company Store – 10/28
The Stone Company Store in Pasadena welcomes actor, gamer, and geek extraordinaire Wil Wheaton for the ultimate craft beer geekfest. Wheaton will pour a selection of his favorite beers, including his own Greg Koch and Drew Curtis collaboration, Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout (w00t!). Ten percent of the evening’s beer sales goes to the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA. More information.
Filipino American History Month Dinner with Andre Guerrero at Maximiliano – 10/29
Most Filipino restaurants you’ll find stateside are turo-turo or “point-point” (AKA, buffet style). But next Tuesday the Quezon City-born chef Andre Guerrero (Little Bear, Maximiliano, the Oinkster) is whipping up a modest feast to celebrate Filipino American History Month. His six-course spread will feature dressed up takes on classic Filipino soul foods, including lumpiang shangai (fried spring rolls), lechon (crispy pork), and ube (sweet purple yam). ‘Blaak’ Cheese Tasting at The Cheese Store – 10/29
Blaak cheese is a goat-cow cheese blend with a black rind made by Beekman 1802 farms. And though it might look a little scary, we can assure you it’s no Halloween trick. Come by the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills on Tuesday to try some Blaak and meet the Cooking Channel‘s Fabulous Beekman Boys in person. More information.
