Rising Tohoku Fair at MItsuwa — 10/17 – 20
Japan’s Tohoku region is not only the birthplace of the absurdly sweet Fuji apple, it is also home to a unique culinary style that includes everything from sweet confections to savory ramen. Mitsuwa Marketplace will be highlighting the area at the Rising Tohoku Fair, featuring Japanese-style apple pie, beef tongue bento, and tonkotsu shoyu ramen from the Sendai Takejiro noodle shop. Palihouse Pop-Up with Chef Nick Curtin — 10/18
this is not a pop-up is bringing together chefs Jonathan Peters and Nick Curtin for a special dinner at Palihouse West Hollywood. The former chef at New York’s ACME and Compose restaurants, Curtin will curate an eight-course tasting menu ($80 per person), with Palihouse chef Peters, highlighting ingredients of the season. Chef Squared with Stefano De Lorenzo and Morihiro Onodera — 10/18 – 19
He may have left beloved Mori Sushi in 2011, but chef Morihiro Onodera will be back in the kitchen this week for a collaboration with chef Stefano De Lorenzo of La Botte. Then ten-course menu will be fuse Italian and Japanese cuisines with dishes such as matsutake mushrooms in parmesan broth and duck ravioli with Tokyo negi in espresso sauce. More Information
The Art of Caviar — 10/19
Artbites, an organization that offers classes combining art and culinary history, is teaming with Petrossian to explore the world of caviar. Using Middle Eastern, European, and American art, the evening will trace caviar’s journey from a humble fisherman’s snack to one of the world’s most renowned delicacies. The event will culminate with a three-course caviar meal prepared by chef Giselle Wellman of Petrossian. More Information
