History of Peanut Butter at the L.A. Public Library – 5/11
Who doesn’t love peanut butter? (No, seriously, who? We’ll fight ‘em.) The versatile nutty spread is being spotlighted by author John Krampner in his new book, Creamy and Crunchy, which explores the ins and outs of this American staple. Join Krampner at the Los Angeles Central Library as he discusses the long history of peanut butter beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event is free to the public. More information.
Nola’s Debuts AYCE Barbecue Brunch – 5/11
Nola’s downtown launches its Saturday AYCE barbecue brunch, featuring New Orleans- and Southern-inspired dishes. The debut feast will showcase a Berber-style whole smoked lamb and a whole smoked pig seasoned with fennel, chile, and oranges. Fixin's include Southern favorites such as creole macaroni and cheese, collard greens, coleslaw, and cornbread, as well as craft beer and cocktail specials. The brunch begins at noon.; the meal costs $30 per person, $15 for children under 12. More information.
American Craft Beer Week – 5/13-19
American Craft Beer Week is a nationwide celebration of the country’s vibrant suds scene. Local breweries are participating in the seven-day fete with plenty of events of their own, including brewmaster dinners at Ladyface and special releases and tastings at Eagle Rock. Taco Wine Pairing Dinner at Salt’s Cure – 5/14
The pork-centric favorite, Salt’s Cure, will celebrate tacos and wine at this $48 four-course dinner. Puzzled by the combo of wine and tacos? Don’t be. The menu features tasty pork shank tacos with rice and beans and house-made churros with citrus sugar—all paired with wines from California’s Scribe Winery such as a skin-fermented chardonnay, and winemakers will be on hand to walk guests through the offerings. Absinthe Explored at Downtown’s Onyx Lounge – 5/14
La Clandestine Absinthe hosts an absinthe education night at Downtown’s Onyx Lounge, where guests can chat with expert Alan Moss about the liquor and its 220-year history. In addition to learning about the unique spirit, guests can sample a number of traditional absinthe cocktails. The first 12 score a bottle of La Clandestine to take home.
