Micah Wexler at UMAMIcatessen – 6/6
Join chef Micah Wexler this Thursday for his second showing at UMAMIcatessen’s rotating culinary series, the Residency. To kick off his “Dead Chefs” series Wexler will pay homage to culinary master Marie-Antoine Carême, and will explore the legacies of a different famous chef each week through July. More Information.
National Doughnut Day at BLD – 6/7
For those of you celebrating National Doughnut Day this Friday (and who isn’t?), attending BLD’s doughnut tasting event is a must. Beginning at 11 a.m. guests are invited to preview new doughnut flavors including Cereal Milk-Glazed and Beer Caramel with Pretzel Crunch. At 6:30 p.m. join pastry chef Mariah Swan at the counter, where she will offer the entire menu in a tasting format for $15. More Information.
Bread Lecture at the L.A. Central Library – 6/8
Carb enthusiasts are encouraged to join the Culinary Historians of Southern California this Saturday for an exploration of the history of bread, grains, and leavenings. Cookbook author William Rubel will discuss the evolution of bread from the Upper Paleolithic to today. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Mark Taper Auditorium of the Los Angeles Central Library. More Information.
Popsicle Tasting at the Market on Holly – 6/8
This Saturday, hit up the Bodega at Pasadena’s Market on Holly for a meet and greet with Layne Eiler of Sweet Clementine’s Popsicles. The event begins at noon and will also feature a popsicle tasting. More Information.
LA WineFest at Hollywood’s Historic Raleigh Studios – 6/8 and 6/9
Whether you’re a connoisseur or someone who just enjoys a glass of something red every now and then, be sure to clear your schedule this weekend for the 8th Annual LA WineFest. Enjoy wines from 13 countries, interactive cooking demos, a Stella Artois beer garden, and more, all while helping to raise money for the homegrown charity Food Forward. Tickets begin at $85, and a VIP upgrade is available for an extra $35. More Information.
626 Night Market at the Paddock Gardens – 6/8 and 6/9
This weekend, the 626 Night Market is back for its second year to provide Los Angeles with live music, games, and some of the best Asian street food around. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature more than 150 vendors. A capacity crowd is expected to attend on Saturday, so be sure to come early. More Information.
Taste of the Nation Los Angeles – 6/9
Come celebrate Taste of the Nation L.A.’s 25th year of delicious fundraising this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Culver City’s Media Park. Guests will enjoy food from top local restaurants including FIG, Border Grill, Ray’s & Stark Bar, Loteria Grill, and more. Tickets can be purchased for $110 or $160 for VIP. Tickets for children 12-18 are $25 and kids 12 and under are free. All proceeds benefit Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger. More information.
Bacon Curing Class at Greystone Mansion – 6/11
Learn how to cure your own bacon inside Greystone Mansion’s historic kitchen as part of the Institute of Domestic Technology’s bacon class. Starting at 6 p.m. students will join the chef and owner of Cast Iron Gourmet, Rashida Purifoy, for a two-hour class covering each step in the bacon-making process. A $95 fee covers the cost of ingredients, supplies, and tastings for each student. More Information.
