Rum Week at Stella Barra – 8/13 to 8/20
In honor of National Rum Day this Friday, both Stella Barra locations are offering a special Sailor Jerry Rum Float every day through next Tuesday. The adults-only concoction is made with Sailor Jerry Spices rum, root beer, and vanilla ice cream. Yum. More information.
13th Anniversary Celebration at Sam’s By the Beach – 8/15
Join Sam’s By the Beach for a 13th anniversary bash hosted by Skinner Vineyards & Winery. For $69 per person, dine on a selection of hors d’oeuvres, a buffet-style dinner featuring dishes such as seared yellow fin tuna salad and grilled New Zealand lamb loin, and an assortment of desserts. Julia Child Pasadena Cocktail Party – 8/15
Kick off “SIP-tember,” Pasadena’s six-week Celebration of the Cocktail, with a citywide cocktail party celebrating what would be the 101st birthday of beloved Pasadena native, Julia Child. Multiple area restaurants and bars will join in on the fun, culminating in a citywide happy birthday toast at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to dress for a 1950s-, ’60s-, or ’70s-era shindig. Urban Radish Grand Opening in Downtown Los Angeles – 8/17
This week downtown’s arts district welcomes its first gourmet market, Urban Radish. Stop by the official opening party for a complimentary breakfast, a dedication ceremony, and guided tours of the market. The new spot, which took over a former warehouse, specializes in ‘farm to fork’ produce, meats, fish, prepared foods, and more. More information.
Rib Roundup at Lucques – 8/18
Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne invite you to chow down on family-style barbecued ribs, drink some cocktails, and jam out to honky tonk tunes at Lucques’ 14th annual Rib Roundup. Staff decked out like cowboys and cowgirls will serve generous portions of Saint Louis-style pork ribs, braised beef ribs, spicy lamb spare ribs, “too-hot-to-handle” chicken wings, and plenty of sides. Tickets may be purchased at the restaurant or by requesting a Rib Fest pre-pay form by phone. More information.
Porchetta Roast and Ferragosto Celebration at Cecconi’s – 8/18
For the third year in a row, Cecconi’s is commemorating the Italian holiday Ferragosto with a whole porchetta roast. Head over to the restaurant’s garden patio to join in on the porky festivities from 2 p.m. until the pig runs out. For $30 per person, guests can feast on roast pork, plated applesauce, oven-roasted potatoes, and pork cracklings, as well as a glass of the restaurant’s new prosecco on tap. More information.
Summertime Backyard BBQ at Freddy Smalls – 8/18
Toast to the end of summer at Freddy Small’s Backyard barbecue, featuring drink specials, a DJ, and all-you-can-eat grub. Tickets cost $45 in advance or $55 at the door and include unlimited corn on the cobb, beer-steamed Maryland blue crab, pork shoulder tacos, and more. More information.
Duroc Pig Dinner at Jar – 8/18
Chefs Suzanne Tracht (Jar) and Nyesha Arrington (Wilshire) are joining forces to roast an entire Duroc pig for a prix-fixe dinner at Jar. The $55 per-person meal includes summer melon with crisp pork belly, family-style roasted Duroc pig, assorted sides, and banana cream pie for dessert. Monthly Wine Dinner: Tuscany at Boa Steakhouse – 8/20
Wine lovers are invited to visit Boa Steakhouse for the restaurant’s first monthly wine dinner. Each event will spotlight tastes from a different part of the world, and the inaugural five-course dinner will feature Tuscan dishes such as chicken liver crostini and crispy wild boar belly, plus wine pairings. The prix-fixe menu costs $195 per person; reservations are required. More information.
National Lemonade Day at Lemonade – 8/20
If you’re going to celebrate National Lemonade Day, you might as well celebrate it at one of Southern California’s 11 Lemonade locations. The cafeteria-style restaurant serves six different citrusy flavors including Blueberry Mint, Cantaloupe Sage, Peach Ginger, Watermelon Rosemary, Pear Basil, and more. Proceeds from all lemonade sold on August 20 will benefit The Painted Turtle organization. More information.
Tasting Table’s A Taste of Summer at Cliff’s Edge – 8/20
Tasting Table is teaming with Cliff’s Edge to honor summer’s final days with a multi-course feast on the Silver Lake restaurant’s patio. Diners can dig into dishes like barbecued pork cheek over white corn grits and curried peach and blackberry cobbler. Cap off the meal with free-flowing pints of Shock Top beer. Los Angeles Magazine Social Hour at Domaine LA – 8/20
Join us in celebrating two of our most delicious Best of LA winners, Domaine LA and Sotto, as they collaborate for an evening of eco-conscious wine tasting, porchetta nibbling, and festive mingling. Los Angeles magazine dine editor Lesley Bargar Suter will be on hand as well to chat with loyal readers and fellow food and wine enthusiasts. TASTE of THE TASTE at RivaBella – 8/20
Celebrate the upcoming Los Angeles Times the Taste festival with a preview event at RivaBella, hosted by Los Angeles chef Gino Angelini and Times food editor Russ Parsons. The preview, Taste of the Taste, will feature a three-course meal that will serve as a sneak peak into the events at the Taste over Labor Day Weekend.
