Chinatown Dim Sum Crawl – 4/18
What better way to sample some of Chinatown’s best dishes than at a dim sum crawl? The event features four dim sum restaurants and pairs their offerings with beer from four local breweries. In addition to noshing on dim sum, participants get to sample unexpected treats along the way. As a keepsake, each diner will take home a complimentary souvenir beer glass. The dim sum journey runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; tickets are $60. More information.
BEP Vietnamese Kitchen Pop-Up Debut – 4/21
Chef Connie Tran launches a brunch pop-up, BEP Vietnamese Kitchen, this Sunday. Set to take over Franco on Melrose every other Sunday morning, the prix-fixe, eight-course, family-style menu includes such offerings as tom rang, a dish of grilled honey prawns, okra, bird chile, caramelized shallots, northern mint, and jasmine rice. A mini marketplace includes T-shirts and Vietnamese “meal kits,” in case you want to try making some of the dishes at home. The brunch costs $37 and includes nonalcoholic beverages. “Food Matters” Fundraiser with Suzanne Goin & Alice Waters – 4/21
Join culinary icons Suzanne Goin and Alice Waters as they stump for “Food Matters,” part of the Edible Schoolyard Project that seeks to bring sustainable, healthy lunches to schools. The luncheon fundraiser at downtown’s Carondelet House will raise money to build a kitchen for the Larchmont Charter School in West Hollywood, in the hopes of becoming the model for other public schools. Goin and Waters will be signing cookbooks, and all proceeds benefit the Larchmont Charter School. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; tickets start at $150. More information.
Olive Oil Tasting Dinner at Fig & Olive – 4/23
Fig & Olive teams up with Xandra Falcó of Spain’s Marques De Grinon olive oil estate and winery to host a seven-course olive oil and wine pairing dinner at the Melrose Place restaurant. Expect a live discussion and olive oil tasting before dinner, then feast on a menu inspired by Southern France, Italy, and Spain, with dishes such as braised octopus carpaccio a La Gallega, roasted veal tenderloin with fig chutney, and lamb filet mignon. The wine pairing dinner costs $125 per person and begins at 7 p.m.; seating is limited to 30 guests; reservations required. More information.
Eat Write at Muddy Leek – 4/17
Indulge in stories, music, and tasty bites at Culver City’s Muddy Leek during the monthly Eat Write event with Tongue and Groove. Today’s literary-music event features J. Ryan Stradel, Zoe Ruiz, and music from David Zasloff. Muddy Leek will extend its happy hour prices for food by chef Whitney Flood. The storytelling begins at 8 p.m.; no admission fee.
