Shade Hotel Winemaker Wine Academy – Thursday 2/21

Manhattan Beach’s swanky Shade hotel will celebrate the almighty grape tonight at its monthly Winemaker Wine Academy on the rooftop skydeck. Sample featured Trinchero wines, snack on hors d’oeuvres, and digest some expert wine knowledge from Trinchero’s head winemaker Mario Monticelli. Tickets are $25 presale; $30 at the door. Mark Peel At ‘This Is Not A Pop-Up’ – Thursday 2/21 – Sunday 2/24

Next in the “This Is Not A Pop-up” guest chef series is Mark Peel, who will be cooking publicly for the first time since Campanile’s closing. The $50, five-course dinner will take place at Hollywood’s Square One from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Among Peel’s new creations are cedar-smoked salmon and ramen with suckling pig liver. Complimentary Boozy Punch and Shots at the Varnish – Sunday 2/24
 
The Varnish is toasting to a few things this week. First, the speakeasy-style cocktail hotspot was chosen as one of the semifinalists for the James Beard Award for Best Bar Program. Second, they’re celebrating four years of shaking some of the city’s best craft libations! In honor of the anniversary, the tucked away lounge is giving away Bols Genever punch and shots of the Italian digestif, Amaro Ramazzotti, to patrons from 7 to 9 p.m.. Cheers! More Information.

Marcus Samuelsson at Post & Beam – Tuesday 2/26

Experience the reinvented American soul food of New York chef Marcus Samuelsson at Post & Beam. The Taste of Harlem in Baldwin Hills menu highlights dishes from Samuelsson’s acclaimed restaurant, Red Rooster, with chef Govind Armstrong’s California sensibilities, such as braised oxtail with fried plantains and crawfish beignets.
