Float Fig’s Swine + Dine Dinner – 7/17
Fig chef Ray Garcia was recently crowned the “King of Porc” at the national Grand Cochon competition, an epic annual heritage hog cook-off. To celebrate the win, he’s partnering with a trio of local farms for the “Swine & Dine” dinner series at Fig. Each of the three events features a four-course nose-to-tail porcine-centric menu showcasing a different California pig farmer. This week’s dinner stars pork from Julian’s Cook’s Ranch. Tickets are $69 per person. More information.

The G&T Dinner at Waterloo & City – 7/17
Waterloo & City salutes the gin and tonic with a four-course dinner featuring the heirloom grains from Pasadena miller Grist & Toll. The $75 menu includes a citrus farro salad with goat cheese and squash blossoms as well as roasted Alaskan halibut with polenta and asparagus in lobster sauce. It’ll all be washed down with a slew of gin and tonics. More information.

Fairfax Summer Kick-Back – 7/19
It’s no secret that Fairfax has become a hub of food and culture. This weekend some of the strip’s best businesses are teaming up for a sort of summer block party. Lindy & Grundy will be providing barbecue in the form of grass-fed burgers, brats, brick chicken, bacon-wrapped dogs,and more. Thee Fat Dog will be pouring brews from two bucket-bound kegs and sangria for $5 apiece, while Coffee Commissary will provide the caffeine. There will also be DJs and more throughout the afternoon. Byzantium Bites at the Getty Villa – 7/19
Satisfy your craving for ancient history at the Getty Villa this week with a program focused on the cuisine of the Byzantine Empire. “At the Byzantine Table: Greek Traditions, Roman Tastes” offers a lecture by food historian Andrew Dalby followed by a four-course dinner inspired by the gastronomy of Byzantium. Menu highlights include lamb with oinogaros sauce, grilled eggplant, and rice pudding garnished with cherries and candied citron. Tickets are $175. More information.

Root Beer Taste-Off at Galco’s Soda Pop Stop – 7/20
Highland Park’s famed soda shop is hosting a huge root beer tasting party for its annual Summer Soda Tasting 4 event. There will be more than 75 root beers, birch beers, and sarsaparillas for sampling as well as other soda-related fun and live music. Proceeds from the $12 tickets go to the Friends of the Southwest Museum Coalition. More information.

El Jefe Pop-Up at Animal with Roy Choi and Jon Favreau – 7/21
Roy Choi and Jon Favreau have been causing quite the stir with their series of “El Jefe” pop-ups, which celebrate the fictional food truck at the center of the recent film Chef.  El Jefe at Animal sees the duo teaming up with acclaimed chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo for a Cuban-inspired multi-course family style dinner ($75 per person) at their Fairfax restaurant. If the full dinner is a bit out of your price range, you can also order those now-famous Cubano sandwiches to-go ($9) on the patio outside Animal. Reservations required. More information.

The Veggie Lover’s Sriracha Cookbook Dinner at Mohawk Bend – 7/21
Celebrate L.A.’s favorite condiment and one of Los Angeles magazine’s favorite contributors at this installment of Mohawk Bend’s “Authors Worth Celebrating” series. Our own Randy Clemens is the guest of honor at this four-course dinner inspired by his Veggie Lover’s Sriracha Cookbook. Tickets are $25.More information.
