Fleur de Sel Dinner at Terranea Resort — 5/15
Breathe the salty sea air at the stunning Terranea Resort while enjoying a salt-themed dinner by executive chef Bernard Ibarra. Thursday's Fleur de Sel dinner is part of a bimonthly cooking series, and proceeds from the event go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The meal will feature dishes like Santa Barbara spot prawns with lemon sea salt, smoked and sea salt-crusted rib eye with mesquite jumbo scallops, and sea salt chocolate bites. Tickets are $300 per person and include cocktails and dinner. Reservations are required. More information.

Preakness Party at Santa Anita Park — 5/16-17
Cheer on California Chrome as he takes on the competition in this weekend's Preakness Stakes race. As part of the new guest chef series at Santa Anita's Chandelier Room, chefs Christian Page (Short Order) and Kris Morningstar (Ray’s & Stark Bar) have put together a slew of dishes that will be served alongside cocktails shaken by Stark Bar's Paul Sanguinetti. The fete will kick off on Friday at 4 p.m. with a Preakness preview and continue on Saturday at noon with a bash honoring our local competitor. Tickets to Friday's festivities are $75 and Saturday's are $150; both fees include all food and drinks. More information.

L.A. Vegan Beer and Food Fest — 5/17
What is it about vegans and beer? They love the stuff! This weekend local vegan blogger Quarrygirl joins with Nic Adler and the team behind Tony's Darts Away to host the fifth annual celebration of an animal-free lifestyle and great brews. More than 40 craft breweries will be pouring and nearly as many plant-based food vendors will be in attendance, including M Cafe de Chaya, Gracias Madre, and Crossroads. There will be live bands, too, to set the mood. The event is sold out (again, vegans love beer), but when tickets were available they were $15 for general admission, $80 for VIP. More information.
