At LA mag we are lucky enough to have a fleet of food trucks waiting to feed us just outside our Miracle Mile offices. Here we highlight the city's grub on wheels.
The Truck: CreativEats. Look for a giant royal blue truck with a few little cartoon veggies scattered around.
The Lowdown: The truck offers a simple menu with a well-rounded variety of gourmet dishes. Its main concept is freshness.
The Peeps: New on the food truck scene, chef Travis Porter takes his love of fresh produce and ingredients to the streets with his South Bay-based kitchen on wheels.
The Loot: Cash and cards accepted.
The Goods: The menu is very eclectic, and everything on it rings of restaurant quality food with a creative streak (hence the name). Being food junkies, we quickly noticed the buttermilk fried chicken with wild rice waffles and Dijon maple syrup ($8) ... but after last week’s bombz, we thought it’d be wiser to go light. The woman behind the wheel told us that the charred Copper River salmon with broccolini ($10) and the soft shell crab with arugula, roasted tomatoes, and bacon ($10) were the two crowd pleasers. Thinking thin, we went with the salmon, and we would never have expected this dish to come from a truck. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium-well and the broccolini was sautéed in garlic and olive oil (not overcooked into veggie mush). It was definitely worth the ten-minute wait.
The Verdict: We would absolutely eat here again and try something different, maybe the guava and goat cheese quesadilla? This truck lets you indulge without all the guilt.
