What: For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Festival of Books, it’s every bookworm’s dream come true (and then some). What started in 1996 as a way of uniting lovers of literature, the festival has now evolved into a full-blown extravaganza complete with live bands, poetry readings, on-site art creations, intimate conversations with authors and filmmakers, and—bonus—live chef demos.

It makes sense, in a way: how could the Times expect us to spend the entire day soaking up literature and art installations without a hot dog in hand? Some of L.A.’s biggest names—Suzanne Goin, Roy Choi, and Ben Ford to name a few—foodies, and bibliophiles will unite this weekend on the USC campus with a belly full of food and an earful of prose. In what will surely seem like a real-life fairytale, celebrity chefs will combine the literary and culinary worlds by teaching viewers how make dishes from their own cookbooks.

Plus, make sure to catch the foodie-centric panel Are We What We Eat?: The Culture of Food featuring gastronomic lit demigods Jonathan Gold, Dana Goodyear, and Gustavo Arellano on Sunday at noon. Grab your reading glasses and bring your appetite!

When: Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Where: USC Campus

How: Admission is free! Food, books, and prizes are available at an additional cost.
