Third Annual Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival - through 8/25
This week marks the return of Southern California’s biggest wine and food festival. A portion of Grand Avenue will be shut down to host live culinary demonstrations, tastings, mixology seminars, book signings, and more. Additional events, including an Asian Night Market with chef Masaharu Morimoto and an Italian feast with chef Giada De Laurentiis, will take place throughout the city. Avocado Festival at Angel City Brewery - 8/24
The itinerary of green goodness includes a guacamole contest, food trucks, and the launch of brewer Dieter Foerstner's newest creation: Avocado Ale. Yep, that’s a guacamole-inspired brew. Proceeds from the Angel City Brewery avocado fest will go to the skid row nonprofit, Lamp Community. More information.
Cocktail Classrooms at Cinco - 8/24
Saturday marks the launch of Cinco’s monthly afternoon cocktail classes, each of which will zero in on a particular spirit. This weekend thirsty students will take an inside look at all things whiskey. Learn about the production process and history from the Cinco team and take part in some interactive cocktail making. Milkshake Madness at BLD - 8/25
Get your milkshake fix this weekend at BLD. Starting at 5 p.m. the restaurant will serve a variety of flavors, including café au lait with Dorda chocolate liqueur, cinnamon marshmallow with kahlua, and caramel cookies and cream with whiskey. Used Cookbook Sale at the Hollywood Farmers Market - 8/25
Those in need of culinary inspiration are encouraged to check out this weekend’s used-cookbook sale, presented by the Culinary Historians of Southern California. The event is free and proceeds will go toward the Los Angeles Public Library’s culinary collections. In addition to cookbooks, there will be magazines, menus, and other foodie ephemera for sale. The Chefs Table with Zach Pollack of Sotto – 8/27
