On the DL: Have a Look at Dirty Laundry, Opening This Week
Twin brothers Mark and Jonnie Houston are at it again.
Owners, operators, classicists, drinkers, and brothers in hospitality and bar design Mark and Jonnie Houston are just about ready to open their fifth bar. Dirty Laundry, an underground speakeasy-style bar, opens to the public later this week. Just around the corner from their other hot spot, No Vacancy, Dirty Laundry has taken over what was once silent film actor Rudolph Valentino's personal speakeasy. During prohibition, Valentino and his favorite starlets would escape to this lair and let their inhibitions run wild.
The 1,500 square foot space is about half the size of No Vacancy and next door to their forthcoming Madame Siam, a lounge and restaurant. Within Dirty Laundry, find a large central bar and a secret room off to the side. Valentino's Lounge, as it's called, can be closed off for private events. The room's decor, music and feel are all different from that of the main bar, adding to the room's intrigue.
One coincidental design detail that reinforces Dirty Laundry's speakeasy feel? Since it's underground, cell phone reception is nonexistent.
Are you lucky enough to know how to get in? Later this week, Caroline on Crack will let us in on all the secrets and tell you what to drink while the DJ spins.
Dirty Laundry, 1725 N. Hudson Ave., Hollywood.
