Dessert Doppelgangers: Delicious Dresses at the 2013 Emmy Awards

Sequins, sprinkles—what's the difference?

This year's Emmy Awards have come and gone. Sure, yes, I'm happy for Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Homeland and all the rest. But while watching that red hot carpet, I couldn't help but think of how so many of the dresses—from sleek to soft to sexy—looked like dessert.

So, while Hollywood's prettiest ladies peel themselves out of their Prada and Prabal Gurung, take a look at the pastries I was pondering while watching that taste step and repeat.

Modern Family's Julie Bowen worked a light pink Zac Posen gown across the red rug last night. Finished with a wide bottom ruffle, it looked a whole lot like a St. Honoré, or cream puff cake, decorated with pale pink raspberry whipped cream swirls.  [Images courtesy of emmys.com, Bottega Louie]

Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery wore a satine Prada halter-style dress that looked a lot like Huckleberry Bakery's glazed flourless chocolate torte. Who doesn't want to be coated in ganache every once in awhile? It's the definition of decadence. [Images courtesy of emmys.com, Huckleberry Bakery]

One look at Rose Byrne's Calvin Klein cut-out dress and I wanted to dash over to Fonuts for their moist Strawberry Buttermilk not-donuts. That rosy pink icing takes the cake. [Images courtesy of emmys.com, Fonuts, Saveur]

Actress Sarah Paulson wore a red Carolina Herrera frock that had me thinking of Bottega Louie's cherry eclairs. They're both bright red and finished with a flourish. [Images courtesy of Coco Perez, Bottega Louie]

Honorable mentions: Heidi Klum, wearing the gown that our style editor Linda Immediato picked out for Robin Wright, looked like a tall glass of wine. Girls mastermind Lena Dunham, bless her, could have passed for a Christmas-colored cream puff.
