Behind decorative white lattice, in a space next door to the MGM building on North Beverly Drive, lies Hakkasan. For the uninitiated, the company—which opened its first location in London in 2001—brands itself as modern Cantonese, but food is often not the sole focus at Hakkasan. Through its design and layout, the restaurant offers something many guests want these days: a sense of exclusivity. Hakkasan Beverly Hills marks the brand's eleventh location, and it's opening right on schedule: lunch and dinner service will commence on Thursday, September 19.
COO of Hakkasan Limited Nick McCabe says that as Hakkasan has entered each new market, the brand has sought to replicate the scene found at its original location. "Our London location is subterranean, which is a big part of the Hakkasan experience. We want diners to feel as though they are stepping away from their world and into ours. Of course, not every piece of real estate allows for us to build below ground. But I think our designers, Gilles & Boissier, were able to capture that feeling in Beverly Hills."
Michelin-starred corporate chef Ho Chee Boon is on site, currently finalizing the new menu for Hakkasan Beverly Hills. McCabe explains that the new menu is comprised of 60 percent classic Hakkasan dishes (such as roasted Silver cod with Champagne and Chinese honey and stir-fry black pepper beef Rib-Eye with Merlot) and 40 percent new dishes, meant to appeal to their new prospective clientele. "There's a perception that Chinese food is not light, but in fact nearly half of our new menu will be tailored toward a health conscious consumer," says McCabe. This includes the drink list, which is nearly as long as the full length bar, but will offer a number of "skinny" cocktails—something the neighborhood might appreciate.
Set to serve Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. for lunch at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, Hakkasan Beverly Hills is now accepting reservations for opening day and beyond, online
or by phone at 310-888-8661.
