So you didn’t make it to L.A. Mag’s 2nd Social Hour last week? Unlucky you. Take a peek at the action here, where you can catch photos of the Los Angeles magazine staff and some savvy readers chowing down on seriously spicy Thai street food, sipping on cocktails, and smiling for the camera.
After an hour of drinking and mingling on Night+Market’s backyard terrace, guests made their way inside for a family-style meal prepared by chef Kris Yenbamroong, and an early showing of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters premiere (commercial-free!). Joining in on the festivities were Lesley Bargar Suter, Los Angeles magazine Dine Editor and one of this seasons Top Chef judges, L.A. contestant Sang Yoon of Father’s Office and Lukshon, as well as the show’s host, hunky Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone.
Eyes watered as spicy plates of larb lanna and pork toro were passed around from table to table—to be fair, chef Yenbamroong gave fair warning that his grub was hot. Luckily, bottomless Chang beer towers served as a thirst quencher, and after a few cups of the stuff, the food burned a little less. An enthusiastic crowd cheered during the show as Suter quipped about dishes, laughed as Yoon jumped hesitantly out of an airplane, and gazed starry-eyed whenever Stone was on screen (or really, did anything at all). At the end of the night, guests said their goodbyes and headed out, full of food and beer, with their own issues of our August Best of L.A. issue and some handy packs of L.A. mag gum.
