It's been a rough month for food journalists. Last week, New York's Village Voice paper announced that it was laying off longtime restaurant critic Robert Sietsema. Not long afterwards, critic Tejal Rao—who recently won a James Beard award—resigned.
Today, we found out that New York magazine's Grub Street blog would be turning off its local sites, including the one in Los Angeles. This is particularly sad because editor Hadley Tomicki was a friend and trusted source.
When we reached out to Tomicki, he said he was doing fine and that New York magazine was fielding all official media inquiries. Still, it must have been a shock since the long time editor "just learned about it at 9 a.m. today." (Ouch, New York mag, ouch.) Until his next gig, find Hadley "celebrating the taco lifestyle" at L.A. Taco.
