Ham + Whiskey Dinner at BLD – 4/25
Neal Fraser's all-American spot, BLD, salutes the South with a four-course Kentucky ham and whiskey dinner for $55. Chef Fraser will include dry-cured pork slices in dishes such as biscuits and ham, country ham cassoulet, and bourbon-caramel-glazed doughnuts with candied ham. Whiskey cocktails and a tasting flight from Heaven Hill Distilleries will accompany all that savory swine. More information.

Le Grand Fooding Crush - 4/26 to 4/27
Eleven French chefs pair up with ten L.A. chefs for a massive tasting event at MOCA Geffen, put together by the radical French dining movement, Le Fooding, and its founder, journalist Alexandre Cammas. Who's involved? Think household names such as Roy Choi, Ludo Lefebvre, and Nancy Silverton, to name a few. The two-day event will include tastings of dishes including pulled lamb sliders and amberjack ceviche, plus champagne from Veuve Cliquot, DJs, and plenty of graphic art to gawk at. Although we hear tickets are sold out, we hope you were lucky enough to snatch one. More information.

Follow That Chef SNAP Challenge - 4/27
The Santa Monica Farmer's Market and the Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories join together to host a cooking challenge between L.A. chefs Nyesha Arrington (Wilshire) and Stefano de Lorenzo (La Botte). Participants will follow the chefs as they scour the Santa Monica farmer's market for ingredients to build a vegetarian dish for four on a SNAP (food stamp) budget. Following the challenge will be a panel discussion on food security issues. The class and panel are free to the public; registration required. More information.

Egg Cooking Class at Cecconi’s – 4/27
It's all about eggs at this hands-on cooking class with Cecconi's chef Andrea Cavaliere. Along with chef de cuisine Alessio Biangini, Cavaliere will demonstrate the almighty egg's versatility with dishes such as egg ravioli, poached eggs with hollandaise sauce, and a lemon tart with meringue. The class, plus a meal made up of the tasty results, is $55 per person. Reservations required. More information.

Food as Medium for Craft with Caitlin Freeman – 4/27
It tastes as good as it looks. At least, that's the topic of this free discussion with San Francisco pastry chef and author Caitlin Freeman at the third installment of the “Food as Medium for Craft” series at the Craft in America Study Center. Freeman will be signing copies of her new book, Modern Art Desserts, and sweet treats will be served after the talk. The event begins at 6 p.m. More information.

Home Coffee Roasting Class at Zane Grey Estate – 4/28
Calling all coffee enthusiasts! Learn the art of coffee roasting at the Institute of Domestic Technology’s home coffee roasting course. The $98 one-day class, held at the Zane Grey Estate in Altadena, will take guests through the process of purchasing fresh green coffee beans and roasting and brewing them at home using inexpensive equipment. Finish the day with coffee samplings and fresh-baked snacks. Take home your own fresh-roasted coffee and some green coffee beans for practice. More information.

South Bay Ultimate Wine Festival at Shade Hotel – 4/28
Sample wines from some of the best-known California wineries during the eighth annual Ultimate Wine Festival at the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. Taste wines from more than 50 wineries and nosh tray-passed hors d’oeuvres while chatting with oenology experts. Participating wineries include Mumm Napa, Titus, and Villa Creek. Tickets costs $125 and proceeds benefit Manhattan Beach Middle School. More information.

A Taste and Swirl of California at the Strand House – 4/29
Michelin two-star chef Douglas Keane, formerly of restaurant Cyrus, will take over the kitchen at the Strand House for a California-inspired five-course dinner. Dishes will include a cauliflower, uni, and caviar parfait; a seared scallop wrapped in ocean trout; and a Wagyu striploin of beef. The cost for the dinner is $100 per person plus an additional $50 for wine pairings. The event begins at 7 p.m.; reservations required. More information.
 
"If I Were a Food Truck" Beer Dinner at Tin Roof Bistro - 4/30
Chef Anne Conness (Tin Roof Bistro), chef Gabriel Caliendo (Lazy Dog Restaurants), and El Segundo Brewing Company are teaming up for a beer-pairing dinner inspired by food truck fare. The casual five-course dinner, at Manhattan Beach’s Tin Roof Bistro, will include dishes such as shrimp and crab chile relleno and roasted duck tamale cakes, and will be paired with five brews. The price of the beer pairing dinner is $45 per person. More information.
