The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Lands in L.A.

Just when you think there isn’t room for one more food truck in L.A., a New Yorker comes for a visit. The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, Manhattan’s mobile soft serve phenomenon, is popping up all over L.A. this week, slinging concoctions like the Salty Pimp—a vanilla cone with sea salt, Dulce de Leche and a chocolate dip—and a signature sundae drizzled in olive oil and fig sauce.

Co-founder Doug Quint, a bassoonist-turned-ice-cream man, and his partner Bryan Petroff are couch surfing at Animal, using Jon and Vinny’s kitchen to prep special toppings for their L.A. visit. The truck will be spreading its icy goodness to two to three locations a day through October 27, including Animal, Duff’s Cake Mix, and Susan Feniger’s Street.
