Booze, BBQ, and Beats at Commissary’s Summer Kickback Party This Sunday
Party with grilled meats from Lindy & Grundy and ice cream from special guest Salt & Straw
L.A.’s boutique butcher shop Lindy & Grundy will be grilling various meats, including hamburgers, bratwursts, and spicy chicken rubbed with guajillo and arbol chiles. Enjoy a couple of kegs of Scrimshaw Pils and 24th Street Pale Ale from The Fat Dog, as well as sangria. And Portland-based ice cream newcomer Salt & Straw (which plans to open a space this August on Larchmont, hooray!) will also join the party, offering three new flavors: sea salt with hand-burned caramel, freckled woodblock chocolate, and Saint Ynez walnut oil. The former will be paired with Commissary’s exclusive micro-lot Ethiopian espresso to make affogatos. Meanwhile, with burger and beer in hand, stick around for the roster of djs from the artist collective Mothership, borne out of the CalArts music scene.
“Hopefully this begins a partnership that will last into the future,” says Salt & Straw owner Tyler Malek, who became fast friends with Lindy & Grundy owner Amelia Posada. “Here at our Portland location, we like to think of our ice cream as almost a cheat sheet to what’s happening in the local food scene. We’ll have amazing goat cheese, or projects with brewers and choclateers. It’s everything in Portland encapsulated in ice cream. Moving to L.A., we wanted to start from scratch and tell similar stories with L.A. artisans and a whole new pool of ingredients.” If that is the case, one can only hope to see a Korean chili-pepper flecked ice cream.
