Lobster Palooza at Caulfield’s—5/29
Caulfield’s at Hotel Sixty is launching its new lobster roll menu with a crustacean blowout! Choose from subs like a Connecticut roll with warm butter, the island roll with pineapple slaw, or something a little edgier like the dynamite roll with baked lobster and spicy aioli. From 5 to 11 p.m. diners can choose two rolls for $22. These beauties will only be available on Thursdays throughout the summer. More information.
TART Uncorked — 5/29
TART restaurant and the Los Angeles Youth Network are teaming up to host TART Uncorked, a giant wine tasting fundraiser for homeless youth. Sample pours from California vineyards alongside seasonal bites like scallop ceviche and oysters on the half shell from executive chef Nick Erven. Attendees can also participate in the silent auction and bid on items like an overnight getaway to Jordan Vineyard in Healdsburg. The fundraiser takes place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and the $150 ticket price includes all of your wine tastings and bites. More information.
Summer Cooking Class at Border Grill — 5/31
Want to learn some sweet summer recipes for your next outdoor shindig? Hit this week’s cooking class at Border Grill led by chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. The icons of Latin food will teach students how to prepare vegetarian dishes like avocado cocktail with jicama and radish, squash blossom relleno, and horchata panna cotta. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, and the $75 admission includes lunch, a recipe book, and cocktails. More information.
L.A. Wine Fest — 5/31- 6/1
Explore tons of wines, brews, and spirits at this year’s L.A. Wine Fest at Raleigh Studios. There will be more than 100 wines for sampling as well as food trucks like Carb & Nation and the Grilled Cheese Truck. Tickets cost $85 per day and include your drinks. For an additional $40, score the VIP package, which includes private seating, early admission, exclusive tastings, hors d’oeuvres, and a gift bag with more than $100 worth of goodies. IPAs and Barbecue at Public School 310 — 5/31, 6/2-3
Public School 310 is throwing an IPA Fest on May 31, featuring 15 beers on tap from some of America’s best-known breweries. The pub is also hosting a couple of five-course IPA dinners on June 2 and 3, pairing suds from around the country with a slate of barbecue dishes. The $45 fee includes the dinner plus a branded T-shirt, pint glass, and recipe book. More information.
Crazy Cake Decorating Class at Charm City Cakes West — 5/31, 6/14, 6/28
Duff Goldman’s bakery, popular for its over-the-top cake designs, offers home-bakers the chance to create some wild cakes of their own this summer. Each $150 class features a different theme, and attendees come away with creative tips and tricks for working with fondant, airbrushing, and other decorative touches. Reservations are required. Tennessee-Style Indoor Picnic at Lucques — 6/1
Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne are throwing a picnic-style dinner at their restaurant Lucques, inspired by Goin’s visit to the famed Blackberry Farm in Tennessee. The prix-fixe meal features dishes like sweet tea-brined fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and frozen banana cream pie with bourbon whipped cream. The dinner costs $55 per person and paired specialty cocktails are available for an additional fee. More information.
Taste of the Nation at Culver City’s Media Park — 6/1
Rub elbows with some of the culinary world’s biggest names while enjoying bites and booze—all for a cause. This year’s Taste of the Nation Los Angeles, a giant food event dedicated to ending childhood hunger, will be hosted by “Classy Ladies” Alie Ward and Georgia Hardstarck (Cooking Channel) at Culver City’s Media Park. The benefit will feature the cuisine of chefs like Joe Miller (Joe’s Restaurant), Ray Garcia (Fig), Josiah Citrin (Mélisse), as well as a selection of wines and cocktails. General admission ticket holders can sample the charitable creations for $110 per person. An additional $50 gets you the VIP package, which includes samples from 15-year-old chef phenomenon Flynn McGarry of the pop-up EUREKA. More information.
Waves of Grain Beer Festival at Shade Hotel — 6/1
Craft beer gets the royal treatment at Manhattan Beach’s Shade hotel. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. the entire hotel will transform into a massive beer-tasting extravaganza with samples from more than 40 local breweries, grilled cheese sandwiches, a taco cart, giant German pretzels, and more. Tickets are $40 online or $50 at the door. A portion of proceeds go to the Richstone Family Center, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing child abuse. More information.
Annual Burger Week at Oinkster, Eagle Rock — 6/2-8
Your bikini diet will have to wait because it’s almost burger week at Oinkster in Eagle Rock. This year’s lineup includes seven brand new beefy buns available for one week only.
