[Tonight, ALOUD presents "An Evening with Jeff Bridges and Bernie Glassman" at the Aratani/Japan America Theatre at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo. Why? To celebrate the release of a new book co-written by onscreen Dude Jeff Bridges and real-life Zen dude Bernie Glassman. Below, a few thoughts on the book.]

TITLE: The Dude and the Zen Master
AUTHOR: Jeff Bridges and Bernie Glassman
PRESS: Blue Rider Press, 196 pages, $26

The Dude abides. And in this lighthearted collection of conversations between Jeff Bridges and Zen master Roshi Glassman he continues to preach nonpreachiness: Be grateful, don’t judge, help others. Illustrated by Bridges, it’s not heavy enough to be a spiritual guide, but it’s more thoughtful than one might expect from “Dudeism,” the religion inspired by The Big Lebowski.
