Tig Notaro’s New CD is Out Today

If tragedy plus time truly does equal comedy, Notaro is the Usain Bolt of the standup world.

In case you weren’t at Largo that fateful night last August… In case you missed Tig Notaro’s epic show… In case you didn’t download it later from Louis C.K.’s website… You have one more chance to hear the “instantly legendary” set.

What’s so special about this particular show? It caps off a year during which Notaro went through a difficult breakup, unexpectedly lost her mother, came down with a nearly fatal case of pneumonia, and (…wait for it) only a few hours before her show she received a diagnosis of Stage 2 breast cancer. Really. But she somehow spun sorrow into hilarity with her raw emotions and trademark deadpan delivery. If tragedy plus time truly does equal comedy, Notaro is the Usain Bolt of the standup world.

Today, the album of that set, Live, comes out on CD along with a bonus disc, Tig Notaro Live at The Moth in which the L.A. comedian tells the sort of hilarious, bracing, painfully honest tale that the storytelling series has become known for. (There’s also a Live picture disc LP but only 500 copies are available.)

Actually Tig Notaro is the Charles Manson of the comedy world. Or, the Richard Ramirez of the comedy scene. Actually, they probably had more shame. She is a sociopath who would kill for fame and money.
