Napa Valley royal Margrit Biever Mondavi was in town recently to celebrate the 100th anniversary of her late husband, winery founder (and much more) Robert Mondavi at old pal chef John Sedlar’s Rivera restaurant. All I can say is when I am 87, I want her bobbed haircut and joie de vivre. Sedlar met the Mondavi’s in the 80’s when he participated in the first winery culinary program (in the US) with them – The Robert Mondavi Great Chef’s Program. The evening was a four course journey paired with some fantastic Mondavi wines. With each course Margrit rose to tell stories about adventures she and Sedlar had back in the day. “I have quite a few rings on my tree,” Mondavi joked in Rivera’s terrific lighting (fine idea, chef).
Why care? Because the menu is avail (until December 18th) starting today at Rivera for dinner from an amuse that is a two bites of bacon and eggs and toast and jelly to scallops and french green lentils (see the full menu here). $150 per person with wine pairings (tax/tip extra).
