“I think we are here too early,” Eva Chow worried aloud to a companion at the bar as thin ladies in super fine shoes began trickling in for cocktails at Spago for the inaugural Dream For Future Africa gala honoring Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani. Chow is a party vet and her LACMA Art + Film Gala next week (which she hosts with Leonard DiCaprio) at LACMA promises to be fantastic. As cones of tuna and salmon pizza made the rounds, the restaurant filled with stylish folks like Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Karolina Kurkova, Amber Valetta (she was co-host alongside the Pucks), Joe Jonas, Smokey Robinson, Devon Aoki, Amy Smart and Carter Oosterhouse, among others. Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds performed as did tenor Vittorio Grigolo (who brought the house down last week at the Annenberg opening party).
Geilila started the DFFAF in 2010 and last night was her inaugural awards bash. Honoree Franca Sozzani, a recently appointed Goodwill UN Ambassador, snagged the first prize for her “commitment to the fashion, faces and crafts of Africa.” I’d say, judging by the crowd at this gala (tables went for $50,000—$500,000) she’s got a real hit on her hands.
