“Remember, one day you could wake up and not know who the f*@# you are,” Samuel L. Jackson warned/joked at the second annual Hilarity For Charity Presented by GIV Mobile indoor picnic. Jackson kept it light at Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller’s really funny fundraiser but he lost his mother to Alzheimer’s in November. His Aunt has the disease as well. He told touching (but not sad) stories about them. Last year the event was held downtown at Vibiana with a picnic theme. This year the gingham tablecloths carried over to the Avalon with bbq, tacos, kegs of beer and pizza delivered about mid-way through the comic, magic and musical performances. Celebs like Jackson and Mindy Kaling put in appearances and the Backstreet Boys did a big number.

It’s a refreshing kind of a fundraiser full of junk food, goody bags that contain boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese and hangover cures and more than one musician who plays the ukulele. My faves: Kevin Hart’s stand-up, actresses Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome aka comedy folk duo Garfunkel and Oates. Who doesn’t want to raise money by eating barbequed things with bones in a dark room and laugh … a lot?

Thanks so much for coming out to support the Alzheimer's Assn. at this completely fun event! Alzheimer's disease is horrific -- I know you get that -- which is why we're taking action now to find better treatments and a cure! It's not just "an old person's disease." It is slowly taking Lauren Miller's mother who is in her 50s. It affects parents, grandparents and those who love them. Keep up the great work.
