What was doing this week? John Varvatos held their 10th annual Stuart House Benefit and the Pantages premiered Catch Me If You Can. Some bite-sized morsels for you…
Varvato’s fundraiser for Stuart House just gets bigger and bigger each year. They close down Melrose and bands like Cheap Trick or Dave Mathews entertain the folks. It’s grown from a little bash Varvatos used to throw in his Melrose store’s parking lot. I’d say about 1800 peeps this year enjoying the In & Out and Hot Dog On A Stick truck. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry did an entire concert (they were joined onstage by Slash). Melrose was blocked off and people shopping on Robertson got a free concert. Who was there? Ben Affleck (trimmed beard) and Jennifer Garner, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts, Alice Cooper, Rachel Zoe and Tori Spelling and Co. among others.
The Pantages premiered Catch Me If You Can with the usual cast of opening night characters. It was nice to see a packed house with folks that wanted to like the show. The show is cute but not horribly memorable. Even nicer to see comedian/actor/writer Thomas Lennon (Lt. Dangle in RENO 911 and about a million other things). Lennon is the guy who you see in movies or tv playing a doctor or is the voice of the spaceship’s computer and he immediately makes you smile (see pic).
