The Grand Ole Echo, a series of free summertime Sunday concerts featuring Americana and country bands, kicks off its eighth season this Sunday, April 14. For the debut outing of the acclaimed event (named Best Urban Honky-Tonk in our August 2012 Best of LA issue), the lineup includes the Whispering Pines, The Americans, and Phoebe Bridgers inside, and La Route outside on the “back porch.”
Kickoff night is halfway between an urban hoedown and a family reunion and always draws a big crowd, so it’s taking place downstairs at the larger Echoplex. Every Sunday afterwards until the series ends in October it will be upstairs at the Echo. Originator Kim Grant will again be your hostess with Matt Farber booking the main stage and Ben Reddell handling the lo-fi stage out back. We were happy to see them all at their first-ever daytime showcase party this year at SXSW.
Kids are welcome, you can order Two Boots pizza right at the bar, and it’s early (5:30-9 p.m.), so you can still get home in time to wind down before you start your work week.
