Snap Judgments: Andy Warhol’s Polaroids Come to L.A.
A new exhibition at Cal State L.A.’s Luckman Gallery reveals the artist’s flash photography
Each day during his final decade, Andy Warhol photographed the friends, celebrities, starlets, and acolytes in his circle, accumulating tens of thousands of images before his death in 1987. Now in the permanent collection at Cal State L.A.’s Luckman Gallery, more than 120 of those Polaroids and black-and-white photos are on view for the first time, from January 26 through March 23.
“They’re mostly people you don’t know,” says Luckman curator Marco Rios, “but every collection has a crackerjack prize.” If you can’t be famous for 15 minutes, you can at least be famous for a few square inches.
