Party Nibbles: Sacha Baron Cohen Is Picky and Anne Hathaway Is Not Amused
Last night Vanity Fair had one of their Campaign Hollywood Oscar week parties for the cast of Les Miserables at Eveleigh. They have fabu parties and partnered with The Los Angeles Fund for Public Education (a philanthropic org that deserves a golden statue for their efforts). The bash achieved critical mass about 8 p.m. and was strictly SRO around director Tom Hooper and cast members: Sacha Baron Cohen, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne. Here are some nuggets:
Sacha Baron Cohen popped in with wife Isla Fisher. Like me, he made a beeline to the waiter holding a tray of canapes (good eats at Eveleigh). He dropped the fried goodness after getting chapter and verse on it—not his bag. I’m not so picky, so of course I picked it up and ate it. Cohen was in a terrific mood. Wonder who he’ll pour Bisquick on this year? (If he isn’t banned from the Oscars, he made that joke all last year).
I slinked past Anne Hathaway chatting with some folks by the kitchen. Only caught a snippet of the convo. “I’m pissed off!” She remarked, “They never return my calls.” She was either talking about Russell Crowe or getting a service appointment with Time Warner Cable.
Folks kept congratulating lyricist Herbert Kretzmer as Les Mis is coming back to Broadway in 2014 (the Shubert) due to the success of the movie.
Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe were no-shows. But you’ll see them singing (the cast, actually) at the Oscars.
