It’s Official. Deitch Ditches MOCA
What a shock! Okay, not really.
It’s been unofficial news since late last week, but this evening MOCA finally made it real: Jeffrey Deitch is leaving the downtown museum. Say bye-bye to those owlish eyeglasses. The art-dealer-turned-museum-director is returning to New York. In a press release, MOCA writes:
The Board of Trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) announced that Jeffrey Deitch will be stepping down from his role as Museum Director after three years of leadership. Deitch informed the Board of his decision at its July 24th meeting and confirmed he will stay on to ensure a smooth transition and the successful completion of MOCA’s $100 million dollar endowment campaign, expected to close this Fall.
The executive search committee to appoint his replacement will be led by co-chairs Maria Arena Bell (a former showrunner on The Young and the Restless) and David Johnson (al awyer and producer) along with former City Councilman Joel Wachs, who is president of the Andy Warhol Foundation.
