It’s the edible Olympics as stars of the Los Angeles Times food section--including restaurant critic Jonathan Gold--present wine tastings, panel discussions, and bites from the city’s finest restaurants. The Taste presents a weekend of culinary delights featuring exhibitions by foodie all-stars and scores of local eateries who will be dishing out delicious snacks from every possible variety.

Opening night on Friday, August 30 gives fine dining fanatics the opportunity to meet chefs Nancy Silverton (Osteria Mozza), Sang Yoon (Lukshon), and Michael Cimarusti (Providence).

The“Field to Fork”daytime session on Saturday August 31 presents cooking exhibitions by the minds behind Alma, Fig, and the Helms bakery.

The evening’s activities go local with “Flavors of L.A.” a virtual cross-city- city buffet with the chef showcases from Bryan Ng (Spice Table), Sang Yoon (Lukshon / Father’s Office),  and Josef Centeno (Baco Mercat / Bar Ama). The esteemed J. Gold leads a discussion about ephemeral eating with pop-up superstars including Wolvesmouth’s Craig Thornton (whoseNew Yorker profile by Dana Goodyear was a must-read of 2012).

Sunday September 1st, sees theLabor Day Block Party, with a daytime lineup that includes a BBQ symposium, a discussion led by Good Food host Evan Kleiman, and a rousing chat about the oft asked question: Prosecco vs. Champagne?

The weekend culminates with the Cocktail Confidential, which unleashes a tidal wave of boozy goodness bestowed by primo drink-slingers. For North African treats, check out this cooking demonstration by Octavio Becerra, whose new spot Acabàr takes a modern twist on Moroccan classics. Perhaps he will also answer questions about their much-buzzed-about porn bread.

Paramount Pictures Studios: August 30 - September 1, events.latimes.com/taste.
