Isabella Rossellini Brings Her Live Insect Porn to L.A.

'Green Porno: Live on Stage' will have its world premiere this fall at the Luckman

Did you know that snails use darts to inflict pain on their partners before mating? Or that after dragonflies finish copulating, the male drags his female partner wherever he wants her to lay the eggs? Or that female spiders if startled sometimes think male spiders are flies and eat them instead of mating with them?

You will after you watch Green Porno, a series of short films that explores the sex lives of overlooked animals. The show, which began airing on the Sundance Channel in 2008, was conceived, directed by, and stars Italian actress Isabella Rossellini. Specifically, it features the thespian dressed up in homemade lycra costumes as she describes and acts out various mating rituals. In the third season, she branched out to cover sea creatures like anchovies, squid, and shrimp.

This November, Rossellini is debuting Green Porno: Live on Stage and the world premiere is happening here in Los Angeles. It's part of the new season of performances at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, the Cal State LA concert venue that's kind of a secret gem--secret in that most Angelenos don't seem to know about it. With a mandate to bring in global performers, the Luckman's 2013-2014 schedule includes shows by Mexican rockers Kinky, French-African R&B duo Les Nubians, Irish chanteuse Sinead O'Connor, and Carla Bruni, the Italian-French pop singer and model who's best known in American as the wife of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy. That's a lineup to buzz about.
