New Girl star Zooey Deschanel is no stranger to music; she's even sung in many of her films including Elf and Yes Man. But she used to be shy about sharing her musical side—until she met musician M. Ward on the set of The Go-Getter.
Soon after, Deschanel sent a set of home demos to Ward, who wanted to give the tunes a proper recording. The result of the collaboration was the first album under the She & Him moniker, Volume One, released in 2008. Since then they have released three more albums including a collection of Christmas songs and most recently Volume 3, which came out in May and features the single "Never Wanted Your Love."
This Sunday (June 23), the indie duo will bring their brand of sunshine-pop with country undertones to the Hollywood Bowl as they headline the kick-off show in KCRW's second annual World Music Festival. The evening also includes a set by country music goddess Emmylou Harris and her collaborator Rodney Crowell. Upcoming shows in the world music series will feature Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Yo-Yo Ma, and M83.
