He was probably the only performer at Coachella with a Berwick Street tailor on his speed dial, but you missed Nick Cave anyway. Here are three ways to catch the singer and songwriter who at age 55 remains intense and slightly feral.
1. Today on Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW aired a live set that Cave and the Bad Seeds recorded a few weeks ago at Apogee Studios in Santa Monica. There's no video of the show but if you were lucky enough to be in the audience, you got to see Cave, still whippet-thin and nattily attired, prowl the stage like a scarecrow come to life. The 14-song set, archived here, drew heavily from Cave's latest album, Push the Sky Away, but also dipped into the well for older songs like "God Is In the House" and "The Mercy Seat." (The aborted then restarted versions of "Wide Lovely Eyes" are both gorgeous.)
2. "Mermaids," the third single off his new album, was released today...
3. ...but a few weeks ago, the video for "Mermaids" came out. Filmed in black and white, it was shot at the Fonda Theatre back in February when Cave and his band played an album-release show that was also webcast around the world. The video features a creepy children's choir. At a Nick Cave concert, what other kind of children's choir would it be?
