Music Video Monday: Local Natives "Heavy Feet"

Model airplanes, singing sandwiches, and olfactory scavenger hunts

Local psych rock quartet Local Natives released their second album, Hummingbird, in late January. Last week they debuted the video for the single "Heavy Feet." Odd and melancholy like the music itself, it sounds at times like Lord Huron (another local) and features a cast of middle-aged men who might have been plucked from a Kaurismäki movie. These gents are, in fact, the Llandow Visually Impaired Harriers, a group of blind guys who build and fly model airplanes.

Directed by Ben Reed, the clip is both doleful and whimsical. Maybe it's a meditation about taking wing from our dull, earthbound lives. Maybe it's about burying cakes in the ground and sandwiches that can carry a tune.
