PST Review: Clay’s Tectonic Shift: John Mason, Ken Price and Peter Voulkos, 1956-1968.

Location: Scripps College, Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, through April 8.
What to expect: The exhibition presents three artist who have experimented with ceramic forms. Artist Ken Price focused on creating smaller objects, using bright colors and a simple shapes. John Mason and Peter Voulkos created larger ceramic objects of various shapes and colors, some over four feet tall.

The smaller pieces are in the center of the exhibition and the largest works are up against the walls. My favorite item was a large, glittering red x made by John Mason that stands out for it’s size and color.

And while you’re there…: Picnic on the grass between the campus buildings and the orange trees. To get there, locate the intersection of Columbia and Eleven streets and walk through the door that reads SCRIPPS COLLEGE HONNALD GATEWAY.
