Beck’s Song Reader Exhibit: Party Like It’s 1899
Fans can record their own covers at the Sonos Studio display
Didn’t make past The X Factor tryouts this week? Not to worry.
After throwing a rousing launch party complete with appearances from Amy Regan, Adam Green & Binki Shapiro, and oh yeah, Beck himself (in conversation with KCRW’s Jason Bentley and McSweeney’s Jordan Bass)—Beck’s Song Reader exhibition at Sonos Studio on La Brea will keep its doors open through March 24. They’re inviting the city’s bands, buskers, and Beck-philes to come by and record their own versions of the sheet music album the artist released published late last year.
The show features a mini recording studio outfitted with Sonos equipment, along with beautiful renditions of the album’s cover art from Marcel Dzama, Leanne Shapton, and Jessica Hische, a huge painted mural by Kelsey Dake, and even selections from Beck’s personal store of vintage sheet music, so there’s plenty to please the eye while you wait your turn. Word on the street is the musician will be picking his favorites on songreader.net through the end of the month, so you could be famous—or BFFs with our favorite Loser.
