A Statue of Naked, Pregnant Kim Kardashian
And you can rub her belly
If the rumors are true, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby girl should be gracing the world with her presence any day now. Until then, diehard Kimye fans have another reason to rejoice: The buxom reality star’s pregnant form has been immortalized in a life-size nude sculpture being unveiled today in L.A. And you can touch it.
The sculpture, “L.A. Fertility,” is the latest from artist Daniel Edwards—the same guy responsible for the in-your-face statue of Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug, which caused a mild uproar back in 2006. Unlike the kneeling Spears statue, Kardashian will be shown in a walking pose without arms, to draw viewers’ attention to her belly and (per the press release) her “lactiferous” breasts. Edwards says it took him four tries to get her bosom just right.
"People tend to look at the parts, like the creases in her armpits, or how she wore a dress that makes her look like a killer whale," the artist said in an interview. "I’m stripping it of the details people get stuck on, so they can see the beauty."
The northern California-based artist, whose body of work focuses heavily on celebrities and other public figures, sees Kardashian’s and other Hollywood pregnancies as the ultimate symbol of fertility. To that end, he’s encouraging visitors to respectfully rub his creation's rotund sculpted belly for good luck—“kind of in reference to Buddha.”
"L.A. Fertility" will be unveiled Wednesday, June 5 at LAB ART Gallery, and will remain on display for a limited period of time. Two of Edwards’s other works—renderings of the Kimye baby as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s unborn child—will only be on display June 5.
