An art deco theater built in 1936, the El Rey stands in the heart of the miracle mile. A single-screen movie house for over fifty years before its conversion into a live music venue in 1994, the El Rey still maintains its art deco roots; much of the theatre and lobby remain in this style. In 1991 the theater was designated as a Historic-Cultural Monument. The 700-person theater is currently managed by Goldenvoice and hosts shows nightly.
