Prized for its smooth, mellow flavor, cold-brewed coffee—made with coarsely ground beans that have been soaked in cold water for at least 12 hours—has become a staple at just about every specialty coffee shop in town. Secret Squirrel, a local mail-order outfit that sells its product at area stores and farmers' markets, makes a high-octane concentrate worth its weight in Jamaica Blue Mountain. The company also bottles its own, which is rare. Sold in 16-ounce glass containers, the brew is meant to be diluted with water (and milk and sugar, if you like), creating a cup of joe that's strong as an ox and soft as cashmere, with just enough bite to remind you that you're drinking the good stuff.
