Best Pocket Nursery, August 2011
The giant independent nurseries can be dizzying with their acres of edibles, while the chain garden centers offer all the inspiration of a plot of impatiens. You’ll have better luck at Silver Lake’s Sunset Blvd Nursery. Neither too big nor too small, it’s been in the same Japanese American family for 52 years, offering attentive service and a gorgeous display of well-tended plants. Along with a selection of robust vegetables like heirloom peppers and hard-to-find herbs like Indian mint, you’ll find colorful annuals and perennials keeping company with cacti, succulents, pond fish, and trickling fountains. Even the towers of glazed pots and the seed packet choices are noteworthy.
