Best New Flagship, August 2008
Opulent? Check. One of a kind? Absolutely. We appreciate these qualities in single-label shops like Juicy Couture and Alexander McQueen. But we’re crazy about the first U.S. outpost of Ports 1961, which is housed in a refurbished bungalow on one of West Hollywood’s leafier corners. The interior evokes a posh cabin in a far-flung mountain resort, with its exposed Douglas fir roof, silver curtains that cascade from the ceiling, and ankle-tickling fleece rugs. The merchandise—tie-dyed wool stoles with wooden buckles, long necklaces of felt beads—reflects the understated eccentricity of the shop.
