Best Thrill Ride, August 2005
Getting strapped into seats that dangle off the sides of a track, not on it or below it, was harrowing enough. But what we didn’t realize as we ascended, backward, a 200-foot-high hill was that those seats on Six Flags Magic Mountain’s X2 roller coaster can rotate 360 degrees. Yes, those were our bloodcurdling screams as we found ourselves over the crest of that hill and hurtling face-first down an 89-degree drop to the fast-approaching pavement. A load of twists, turns, and loops followed, and it took a couple of days for blood to return to our knuckles. No amount of time waiting in line will ever kill the buzz when you walk off X2 and realize you are still breathing.
