Best Dog Beds, July 2006
When shopping for a mattress fit for a Maltese, L.A.’s pampered-pet owners might try the Wagging Tail on Montana Avenue or 3rd Street’s Chateau Marmutt. But it is the selection of durable dog beds at Ventura Boulevard’s Maxwell Dog
that sets tongues wagging. Average pet shops stock flimsy flannel-lined beds that wind up doubling as Fido’s chew toy. Maxwell offers micro-suede cradles starting at $169 or sheepskin-wrapped cushions for $50 to $100. Of the store’s 35 or so styles, several come with machine-washable, cotton-canvas duvets. Brands like Haute Pooch certainly carry their own cachet. Can’t find what you need? They’ll order it.
